Trying to not go over board with color comps

Ok I am at the point now of having to turn in color comps of my portfolio website for my intro to html class tommmorow moring. I am horrible with using color and have had several ex girlfriends tell me that I do not how to wear clothes that match. I know that simplicity is the key in having a successful website, but I am having a hard time striking a balance. This is going to be my portfolio site so i do wan’t it to be a little flashy but not too much in excess. I am sure that whatever I chose to do if there is a problem with it my teacher will allow me change or refene my decision in the next couple of weeks. I have been looking at other peoples websites for ideas and also looking at the most popular in use today including wordpress and google. Both sites work great and are popular but I do not like the backrounds being solid white. I realize that the point of these sites is to be more functional than aesthitically pleasing. I guess I’m just going to have to give this a shot and see how this turns out. If anyone has some suggestions please message me.

Adventures in newbie html scripting.

Well I have hit the halfway mark in my Into to Html Scripting class. I built my first website last week and am happy that I have learned something new that ?I can create with. I made a Ritchie Ramone fansite. Ritchie Ramone was the band the Ramones third drummer. he played on 3 records and contributed several songs for the albums. sadfully he is one of lesser known Ramones. My website Contained a homepage,bio, and rare pictures page. In the bio I included links on topics that would take you to wiki if you were intersted in them. I think my teacher liked it; actually I’m not really sure : ) . Now that I know how to build pages I am working on creating layouts that are interesting and easy on the eyes. I am not much of an artist so this does present a challenge. Also I am having a hard time keeping this required blog up because I do not have access to internet at home and a lot of projects keep from getting time to do it in school. Anyway to get back on topic my final project in class is going to be a homepage about the video work,short films and books I’ve written. If it is good enough I believe my school will host it. So when it’s out you guys gotta give me some feed back. Until then take it easy.

5 websites that I like.

As part as my intro to scripting class I am posting my 5 favorite websites and why I like them.

1.) www.misfits.com

I like this website compared to other band websites because it is not cluttered. The website is very easy to navigate and it has several large and cleary labeled buttons to navigate the site.

2.) www.filmthreat.com

If you are a fan of film indie and hollywood film threat is a very in formative website. right above the news column is navigation tabs which will direct you to the blog and shop sections. The site makes great use of space and segregating the different topics they cover on the front page.

3.) www.gamespot.com

I used to go to www.ign.com for my gaming and entertainment news until they redisigned the website. The redisign is a lot more difficult to navigate and is covered with ads and fluff. Gamespots navigation is easy to find and use. You simply click one of the above links for what system for what system you own and are taken to it’s respective page. The font is quite large and easy on the eyes.

4.) www.cnn.com

The Cnn news page has a clean design and makes finding news that suits your interest simple.

5.) www.creativecow.com

If you are into media arts and run into a tightspot learning a new program you should check out creative cow. The strengths of this website is the wealth of content they host. The video tutorials are user created and are very helpful.

The election this tuesday!

I am really impressed to see some many people are energized about voting. I really hope that we do not have people on both sides of the isle preventing people from voting. A repeat of the 2000 election in Florida would be disasterous. I will be staying up all night doing my homework and watching my televison like a hawk. I am supposed to use my blog to talk about web design; so I will a make the comment that I believe the internet has become first in fun raising now for canidates. I have viewed Obama’s and MCcains websites and they are really well designed and easy to navigate.

Learning html

I never thought that I would enjoy sitting in front of a computer learning html. It never really seemed appealing. when i think about scripting in general I think of the IT guy that Jimmy Fallon played on SNL. I do not want to be that guy. My scripting class requires me to post weekly about what I learn and what I think about the class. I really like my class because our instructer keeps everyone up on what is going on and he will slow down in class for people like me. I do like using dreamweaver CS3 alot of my friends do not like it because they are html ninjas and know everything.
